Position Summary:
The Campus Dean of Faculty serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the campus. The position is responsible for managing day-to-day operation of the academic functions of the campus, ensuring all campus classes and academic support services are operating effectively, developing strong collaborative relationships with faculty and staff at the campus, and directing a broad range of functions and services to assure the quality and appropriateness of the campus’ delivery of academic programs. These functions and services emphasize faculty and academic support staff; support of curricula and instructional programs; instruction oversight, including faculty performance, classroom management, instructional resources, and coordination of classroom and laboratory space; grant writing and administration; and budget and program management. The range of services may be adapted for the specific needs of the individual campus.
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Campus Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/President, the Campus Dean of Faculty is accountable for assuring the quality and appropriateness of the campus’s delivery of innovative and effective academic programs through dynamic leadership in these essential functional areas:
- Campus Academic Administration
- Employing, developing, and leading an appropriately qualified faculty and academic support staff to ensure the academic operations at the campus are carried out efficiently and effectively and assure the campus’s capability of delivering academic instruction which meets the academic standards of CT State.
- Campus Academic Resource Management
- Accountable for assisting with management of campus facilities, equipment, technology, and other academic resources needed to carry out the College’s mission.
- Campus Academic Budget Management
- Accountable for preparing, recommending and administering the campus’s academic budget in collaboration with the Campus CEO/President and Senior Leadership of CT State.
- Student Relations Support
- Accountable for contributing to the attraction and retention of students to each campus’ academic programs and their successful academic performance in the programs.
- Community Relationships
- Support the campus CEO in maintaining community connections, communicating events information, and coordinating campus activities that are open to the general public. Working with the CT State Academic Deans, the Campus Dean of Faculty will support and maintain connections between the campus and community, state, and national organizations, particularly those involving academic programs.
- As appropriate, assist with the assessment of campus academic programs
- Evaluation of campus department chairs

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in an appropriately related academic discipline with four (4) or more years of academic managerial experience in higher education including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would provide the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:
- Proven leadership ability and oversight of faculty and/or staff in a higher education environment.
- Assessment of classroom and/or laboratory teaching effectiveness.
- Relevant experience in associate degree education and demonstrated understanding of a comprehensive community college.
- Experience and working knowledge of regional and specialized accreditation standards relevant to campus programming.
- Planning, developing, and evaluating academic resources, services, and programs.
- Management of classroom operations and room assignments.
- Effective collaboration with multiple constituencies in support of a culturally and ethnically diverse workplace.
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong information technology literacy skills, including but not limited to:
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Evidence-informed decision making
- Budget and fiscal management skills.
- Organizational and administrative skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Proven success at problem solving.

Starting Salary:
Anticipated Salary; $114,110 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
