The Test Vehicle Technician Level 2 is responsible for the service/maintenance/repair and flashing for a pre-series test fleet.
Required to perform basic mechanical and safety inspections, diagnosis and repairs of all vehicle systems, and various duties in the main workshop in Auburn Hills. Plan, develop, and build test set-ups and evaluate test results. Investigate mechanical/electrical operational difficulties on products and/or components and recommend corrective action.
- Test vehicle updates (both software and hardware), vehicle fleet maintenance/repairs, vehicle inspections and any part replacements as needed
- Responsible for service and maintenance of entire VW Quality test fleet. Including oil changes, tire rotations, underbody checks, etc.
- Vehicle updating to latest pre-series hardware / software
- Road-test vehicles to ensure repair has been completed successfully
- Analyzes vehicles with regard to basic diagnostics and troubleshooting of found issues.
- Supports Quality Validation Test Lead to confirm vehicles are updated/repaired in a timely manner ensuring vehicles can go out on shift for testing.
- Installation of test measuring equipment; I.E. Data Loggers, Test Parts, Testing, analysis, etc.
- Provides detailed documentation (as required) for all relevant areas of concern in a detailed report by the required deadlines. Ex. Oil consumption documentation for oil changes
- Required to document all findings in internal quality computer system.
- Miscellaneous station activities such as:
- Support Workshop Lead in daily tasks
- Support Quality Validation Test Lead in retesting of issues found in fleet vehicles
- 4-6 years of relevant experience
- High School Diploma / GED
- Associates degree/certification in automotive technology or advanced degree
- A.S.E Certified
- Mechanical competencies
- Computer savvy – proficient/advanced in all areas of MS Office
- Database maintenance and updates
- Experience with Diagnostic Software
- Ability to prioritize and strong attention to detail
- Organized and dependable
- Basic technical knowledge of complete vehicle components and functions
- Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
- Able to use digital camera equipment to produce clear images and basic editing of digital photographs
Desired
- German and Spanish Language Skills
- Industry-related technical background
- Experience with internal diagnostic tools (ODIS E, CP Tool, IDEX, etc)
Work Flexibility
- Ability to push non-drivable vehicles as needed
- Stand and bend for approximately 6-8 hours on a daily basis and commonly sit at a desk or table
- Work schedule is typically 40 hours per week.
- Occasional travel for business & training
