Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Prison Mental Health Nurse to join our client's healthcare team in Falkirk. As a Prison Mental Health Nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing mental health care and support to incarcerated individuals, contributing to their well-being and ensuring the delivery of essential mental health services within the correctional facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Mental Health Assessment and Care:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of inmates, including screening for mental health disorders, risk assessments, and crisis interventions.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans, providing therapy, counseling, and medication management as required.
Crisis Intervention:
- Be prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to mental health crises within the prison, including assessing and de-escalating situations.
- Coordinate with the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of timely and appropriate mental health care.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Collaborate closely with the prison's mental health team, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, to develop and implement treatment plans.
- Provide consultation to other healthcare staff on mental health matters as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and accurate mental health records, documenting all patient interactions, assessments, and treatment plans.
- Prepare reports and updates in accordance with prison healthcare policies and regulatory agencies.
Prison Security and Safety:
- Comply with all prison security measures and safety protocols.
- Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with inmates and prison staff.
Infection Control:
- Implement strict infection control measures to prevent the spread of diseases within the prison mental health unit.
- Promote and educate inmates on proper hygiene and disease prevention.
Qualifications:
- Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN).
- PMVA in date and PVG in date
- Previous experience working as a Mental Health Nurse, preferably in a mental health or correctional healthcare setting.
- Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a secure and potentially challenging prison environment.
- Knowledge of mental health assessment tools, therapeutic interventions, and best practices in correctional mental healthcare.
