The Senior Chemist is responsible for delivering Consistently high standard of analytical performance and problem solving, ensuring that laboratory meets ISO 17025 requirements (accredited by UKAS). This role involves supporting the Laboratory Supervisor in building positive client relationships, making decisions, and proposing potential analytical solutions. The Senior Chemist will also mentor other Chemists in analytical techniques, laboratory operations, and client reporting as agreed with the Laboratory Manager.
Key Accountabilities:
Demonstrate compliance with international and company-approved test methods, procedures, and quality systems.
• Maintain organized and auditable systems of work to permit traceability and ensure compliance with UKAS 17025 accreditation.
• Highlight opportunities and potential risks to the Laboratory Supervisor.
• Mentor Chemists in analytical techniques and laboratory operations to enhance their performance and service delivery.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, ensuring efficient handling of inquiries and continuity of service.
• Conduct data entry, validation, and issuance of reports directly to clients.
• Deliver agreed analysis within set timescales and costs.
• Have a comprehensive understanding of laboratory and analytical techniques/equipment.
• Interact actively with SGS Lims system (Cclas) to ensure accurate results.
• Maintain laboratory QA records such as SQC, equipment registers, and calibration certificates.
• Highlight stock usages and potential cost savings to Laboratory Supervisor.
Essential:
HNC/D in a science-based subject or equivalent.
Full, current, valid UK driving license.
Desirable :
Degree level in a science-based subject or equivalent.
Formal audit qualification.
