About the role
We are looking for a Church Support Manager to join our team in the Southern Region.
The role holder will provide training and support to Parish customers. They will also support the Relationship Management team in the delivery of client services for key customers across the Southern Region.
Key responsibilities
- Own and proactively develop commercially successful and productive relationships with Parishes both individually and at group level
- Provide and maximise a local Ecclesiastical presence for Parishes both individually and at group level through the delivery of online and in-person training
- Provide education and support on risk management for Parishes both individually and at group level using prepared presentations
- Ensure content of suite of presentations is up to date and relevant
- Co-ordinate the production of new presentations for emerging risks
- Act as a key point of contact for Parish customers, triage cases and enquiries to establish the right contact within the department and company
- Respond to general underwriting queries from Parish customers within authority levels
- Planning and delivering agreed activity levels, ensuring CRM accurately reflects planned and actual activity
- Support the Relationship Managers in developing successful and productive relationships with all Dioceses, Cathedrals, selected major Churches, other associated risks and Archdeacons etc
- Support Relationship Managers with query resolution to ensure client satisfaction and retention
- Attend conferences and events as a representative of Ecclesiastical, including giving presentations to key clients and larger groups
- The provision of ongoing service and support to Parish customers to ensure retention, new business and growth targets of the business are met
- Work proactively with colleagues in the technical support functions (including Risk, Underwriting and Claims) to deliver exceptional service to our clients and profitability of business underwritten maintaining prudent UW standards
- Deliver a high quality customer experience following best practice guidelines
- Provide meaningful customer and niche insights to the business and supply any related MI
- Market scanning of competitor benefits
- Utilise underwriting authority to support and assist in the renewal process and with query resolution
- Liaise with the wider Underwriting team and support as necessary
- Identify opportunities for training events and additional value add activities
- Act on individual audit results and agreed action plans within agreed deadlines to improve own performance
- Understand and operate within regulatory framework and identify and escalate any risks to the business
- Identify complaints and act upon them in line with company policy.
- Actively expand personal technical and niche knowledge both informally (networking internally and externally, internet, industry press) and formally (In-house training, CII, CPD)
- Promote Ecclesiastical and the value proposition at all times
- Organise and coordinate opportunities to broaden our relationship with Church customers and demonstrate how Ecclesiastical could meet their needs outside insurance by promoting other corporate value added services within the Benefact Group such as EFAS, Eden Tree and SEIB
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Chartered Insurance Professional – Dip CII qualification or significant progress towards within agreed time frame
- Elementary underwriting experience essential, with a willingness to develop further within agreed timescales
- Detailed knowledge of policy covers used for Parish customers
- NEBOSH qualification (not essential but an expectation to work towards)
- Knowledge of the Church of England and/or experience of working with churches an advantage
- (similar to ‘A proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service) The ability to support the design of and run training sessions for clients
- Proven confident and influential communicator at all levels
- Proven ability to build productive and cooperative relationships internally and externally
- Excellent negotiation and presentation skills
- Positive, proactive, enthusiastic and value driven individual with a proven “can-do” attitude
- A self-starter with high organisational skills and willingness to develop skills and qualifications
- Ability to work flexibly including evenings and weekends. This will include regular travel and overnight stays.

- Market, Industry and Company knowledge
- A proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service
- Clean driving licence required
