Sussex Partnership have an exciting 6 month secondment opportunity for a Specialist Grade (Psychiatry) to join the Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT) in Brighton & Hove. The team is based in the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH), which is a 625 bedded teaching hospital situated in the Kemptown area of Brighton, and forms part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job The role will involve a unique combination of older adult and working age liaison work and the post-holder will have a key role in supporting the wider nursing team and providing continuity of care across the week.
The post- holder will provide medical and psychiatric assessment, treatment and liaison to people aged 16 and above referred to MHLT from the Emergency Department and the inpatient wards within the RSCH.
The post-holder will work with senior managers and clinicians within the local Division. There is the opportunity to participate in planning and development of local mental health services and to contribute constructively to improving the standards of mental health care offered by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

- The role will involve a unique combination of older adult and working age liaison work and the post-holder will have a key role in supporting the wider nursing team and providing continuity of care across the week.
- The post holder will provide senior specialist psychiatric input for patients in the Emergency Department, its link wards and the medical and surgical wards at The Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) in Brighton.
- The post-holder will provide medical and psychiatric assessment, treatment and liaison to people aged 16 and above referred to MHLT from the Emergency Department and the inpatient wards within the RSCH.
- The post-holder has the opportunity to develop expertise in adult mental health, organic mental states, medically unexplained symptoms, the interplay between physical and mental health problems and management of psychiatric crises
- The post-holder will work with senior managers and clinicians within the local Division. There is the opportunity to participate in planning and development of local mental health services and to contribute constructively to improving the standards of mental health care offered by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
- The post-holder will contribute to reducing the volume of crisis work done in A+E by identifying frequent attendees and working with colleagues to develop innovative solutions for these patients, by seeking to reduce attendance and manage the level of risk through individual multi-agency and multi-disciplinary care plans.
- 10 Programmed Activities (PAs)are attached to this post, comprising of 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 2PAs for supporting professional activities to achieve appraisal and revalidation requirements.
- This post does not come with any on call commitments.
- There is a requirement for the postholder to be approved under Section12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and work towards Approved Clinician status to facilitate independent working and accept RC responsibility and related duties where require.
Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria - MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria - Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.

- Additional clinical qualifications.
ELIGIBILITY Essential criteria - Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification
- A minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
- To be section 12(2) MHA 1983 approved (or achieve within 6 months of appointment), if not have Approved Clinician (AC) status/approval and be on the AC register.
Desirable criteria - In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
