Job Description

We're looking for a dynamic and experienced Cost Controller to join our team and champion best practices in cost engineering for major programmes at UKAEA. You'll be the architect of clear budgets and insightful reports, guiding us towards achieving business cases and exceeding expectations, all within budget.

What you'll do:

Be the cost control guru: Provide visible leadership, setting the vision and standards for cost engineering across significant programmes.
Craft meticulous budgets: From initial development to ongoing guidance, you'll be the master of numbers, ensuring budgets are accurate and reflect best practices.
Predict, track, and conquer: Champion the use of advanced tools and metrics like earned value, SPI, CPI, and variance analysis to stay ahead of the curve.
Build bridges, within and beyond: Foster strong collaborations with both UKAEA Finance and external networks, ensuring knowledge sharing and best practice exchange.
Analyze with a hawk's eye: Identify trends, spot deviations, and propose solutions, driving continuous improvement in programme performance.
Empower the team: Guide Project and Programme Managers on cost management approaches, tools, and processes, equipping them for success.
Champion efficiency: Introduce robust cost tracking processes, templates, and tools, building a culture of cost engineering excellence.
You're the perfect fit if you have:

Project management qualification and/or membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ACostE).
Proven expertise in budgeting, tracking, and forecasting for complex programmes.
A knack for navigating ambiguity and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
The ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for delivery teams.
MS Excel wizardry and strong analytical skills.
Self-motivated with a passion for problem-solving and improving processes.
Experience with Primavera or similar enterprise planning tools.
Degree in a scientific, mathematics, or economics discipline (a bonus, not essential).
