Job description

1.1 Work autonomously to deliver high quality evidence based specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and address any shortcomings ensuring agreed action is undertake. 1.2 Liaison with the appointments service, consultant and other staff to ensure the effective management of clinic time 1.3 Organise investigations and management of treatment as part of ongoing fertility investigations in line with the fertility care pathway with the support of the lead Fertility Consultant. Provide preconceptual advice, promoting health and wellbeing to optimise positive treatment outcomes 1.4 In conjunction with multidisciplinary team develop evidence based patient care policies and procedures, develop and contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols and lead the implementation process as required. 1.5 With the support of the team organise and perform fertility investigations and treatments including intrauterine insemination, tubal patency testing by Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) along with the radiology department, donor insemination treatment cycles including the matching of donors to recipients and organisation of artificial insemination using partner sperm 1.6 Arrange and discuss results of semen analysis, test wash and sperm storage where appropriate 1.7 Be a visible point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives, and staff, acting as a resource for the patients / clients acting as the patients advocate, evaluating patient processes and redesigning the pathway of care in collaboration with the senior management team. 1.8 Ensure that patient care plans are regularly updated, changes implemented, maintaining accurate patient records. To keep accurate records for each patient of all communication and clinical activity relevant to her/his treatment, in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) regulations. 1.9 Organise multidisciplinary meetings to discuss patient management as required. 1.10 Provide specialist support to clinical teams in dealing with the complex needs of different client groups and when imparting or receiving sensitive, complex or contentious information. 1.11 In conjunction with senior colleagues and the Matron identify and implement innovative ways of working within the speciality 1.12 Monitor (using blood tests and ultrasound scans) ovulation induction using ovulation induction or gonadotropins according to an agreed protocol. Adjusting dosage where appropriate ensuring patients are aware of the risk of iatrogenic disease such as ovarian hyperstimulation, multiple pregnancy 1.13 Demonstrate excellent communication skills, providing information and implications counselling to enable clients to make informed choices regarding their treatment. 1.14 Management of early pregnancy complications (including ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage), referring to gynaecology where appropriate 1.16 Assist in the management, counselling and support of subfertile clients before, during and after treatment cycles, developing a therapeutic environment to meet the individual needs. Explain the individualised treatment schedule including potential side effects of the drug treatment and demonstration of self- injection technique with the use of subcutaneous pen. 1.17 To ensure that informed consent is given and the appropriate unit and Human Embryology Authority consent forms are completed for the treatment cycle, discussing the risks associated with fertility treatment.
