Position: Sensory Technician
Based: Haddenham, UK
We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team and support the set up and management of operational testing within our R&D Sensory & Consumer Science function.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support all sensory testing including test set up requirements and sample preparation according to the test, test design and project objective.
• Support Discrimination Testing
o Manage discrimination panel and recruitment
o Set up all discrimination testing
o Support with data interpretation and report writing as and when appropriate
• Own and be the key sensory contact for Shelf Life program
o Manage set up of all new SL and keep SL tracker up to date
o Manage data base of results and create overview for final reports
o Communicate any SL failure call-outs to R&D lead
o Undertake technician assessments and manage sample storage requirements
o Set up all SL tests (Compusense), run the testing and do feedback as appropriate
• Support the sensory screening programme, and manage set up and execution of internal and external employee/panel screening.
• Support Consumer testing activities as and when appropriate.
• Manage the hygiene requirements and maintenance of laboratory environment.
• Work closely with Sensory Scientist/Project Manager to manage expectations and requirements and be the key support for any ad hoc sensory related activities.
• Manage sample storage as well as laboratory supplies.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
• A background in Sensory Science, Food Science or related discipline.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field with a Sensory/Consumer Science focus.
• Educational or work experience in a sensory/laboratory environment
• Excellent planning and organizational skills.
• Excellent people skills.
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.
• Ability to prioritize and meeting tight timelines.
• Flexible approach to manage changing priorities.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Fully operational in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Sound knowledge of basic statistical analysis methods.
• Enthusiastic about food.
• Experience in using Compusense At-Hand is an advantage.
• Experience in a laboratory environment is an advantage.
