The Senior Information Governance Officer will work closely with the Information Governance Lead and Data Protection Officer to support the development of information policies and procedures that ensure AfC complies with UK data protection law and good information management practice, the post holder will advise on all aspects of information governance and records management to internal stakeholders, and coordinate and process information requests from customers. The postholder will assist the Data Protection Officer (DPO) to investigate and respond to data breach incidents including deputising for the DPO as required.
The postholder will develop and maintain information governance tools and standards such as the retention schedules, information asset register and records management. Support and lead on work streams to sustain our compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Data
Protection Act 2018 (DPA). Respond to Freedom of Information requests and data subject requests including the redaction of information, preparation of reports for the public. The Senior Information
Governance Support Officer will work with Heads of Service within AfC to collect information required for Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests.
Qualifications
Educated to a degree level or equivalent experience
Maths and English GCSE or equivalent
Skills and experience
Experience of working in Children’s Service environment.
Ability to manage colleagues, including offering line management and performance management
Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation e.g. the Data Protection Act 2018,
General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), Freedom of Information.
Knowledge and understanding of the importance of confidentiality and information governance and security principles.
The ability to foster good working relationships with a range of colleagues both internally and externally.
Significant experience of using IT including Google, Microsoft Office and Adobe
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of individuals explaining specialist/complex issues
Well organised and process driven with proven ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities
Experience in leading a team, undertaking line management, performance management and change management.

Proven experience of developing Information Government (IG) policies and procedures
Experience of addressing specific equality or diversity issues within your practice with colleagues/service users and taking action to solve them.
