Job description
To develop and co-ordinate a programme of play and recreation initiatives across the Borough, with a focus on engaging children and young people of all abilities, in all aspects of play including the implementation of the Play Strategy and operational efficiency of the Borough Council’s play and recreation facilities..
Responsibilities
- Implement and review the Councils Play Strategy and report on actions.
- To facilitate the Partnership Forum and work with partners to provide services for children and young people.
- Assist in identifying and pursuing internal and external sources of funding, ensuring compliance with financial requirements, to assist with the development and delivery of the service.
- To develop links, support and consult with other relevant groups in order to raise both the profile and quality of play provision in the community.
- To develop and support user groups and communities, organising training, mentoring and events.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Level 3 qualification or above in a relevant discipline such as play and/or recreation development/work, teaching, leisure or children and youth work.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years experience in operational delivery of play, recreation and/or leisure activities and events.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years experience writing and presenting technical reports to management.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years experience engaging effectively with stakeholders including partners, community groups, volunteers and the public.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years experience delivering successful outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have two years experience understanding of Health and Safety and undertaking practical risk assessments.
- Be prepared to work outside of normal working hours at weekends, evenings and public holidays as dictated by the needs of the service.
- A full current driving licence valid in the UK (minimum Category B) with access to a form of transport that will allow fulfilment of the duties of the post or have access to a suitable form of transport
- Appointment will be subject to completion of a medical questionnaire including a pre-employment Drugs and Alcohol Screening.
