The Lake District National Park Authority looks after this unique corner of England and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our staff include rangers and field workers, advisers at our visitor centres, planners and ecologists.

We’re looking for a Natural Environment Adviser who is ready to apply their ecological skills, knowledge and experience in nature-based finance, policy development, management and community engagement for benefit of the special qualities of the Lake District National Park and supporting nature’s recovery.

What’s it like to work here?
The Strategy and Environment team are a dedicated team of specialists who are passionate about the National Park’s future. Our approach takes ideas from strategy and turning them into the delivery of high quality projects and practice with colleagues, volunteers, partners, land managers, developers and community groups.

You’ll be hybrid working combining working from home, days in the office but also on site throughout the National Park. Our base is in Kendal, where the team meets every week, to catch up and work together. You’ll be provided with a laptop to enable you to access our secure IT network when working remotely.

The role
Your main duties and responsibilities will be to:
• provide specialist knowledge and strategic advice to deliver nature recovery within the Lake District’s cultural landscape
• work with our Strategy Planners and Development Management Planners, as well as the Property Ranger teams to support the delivery of biodiversity net gain (BNG)
• provide specialist ecological input into matters relating to the natural environment and land management in the National Park
• identifying and delivering nature-based investment opportunities in natural capital, such as BNG, habitat restoration and via established carbon codes
• all the time, using excellent project management and communication skills
