Job description
Consortio, in partnership with a prominent company dedicated to ensuring safety on one of Britain's busiest inland waterways, is currently recruiting for an experienced Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Officer. Our collaborating company operates as a multimodal port, serving as an integrated logistics and services hub for diverse industries such as oil and gas, renewables, general cargo, cruise, and ferries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safe and efficient delivery of VTS Information Service, Traffic Organisation Service, and Navigational Assistance Service in line with IALA standards.
- Monitor and regulate marine traffic to ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations.
- Operate and monitor communication equipment, data collection, and analysis tools to establish a vessel traffic image.
- Control and coordinate movements of Harbour Service Launches to facilitate safe vessel movement within the port.
- Respond to marine incidents, initiate emergency procedures, and liaise with emergency services as necessary.
- Maintain a detailed log of incidents, accidents, and relevant events within the assigned area.
- Report VTS equipment deficiencies, submitting Service Portal and rectification reports to the Duty Port Controller/VTS Supervisor.
- Provide support to Shipping Coordinators as required by VTS operational procedures.
Qualifications and Knowledge:
- Hold a valid V-103/1 VTS qualification with a valid MCA VTS Certification Log or possess marine qualifications (e.g., STCW) relevant to the industry.
- Possess a valid V-103/1 Operators/Simulator Certificate, a V-103/3 Local Endorsement, and an MCA VTS Certification Log Book.
- Strong communication skills with expertise in standard marine navigational vocabulary and message markers.
- Regularly undergo refresher training, simulator training, continuous professional development (CPD), VTS annual assessment, and revalidation of the MCA VTS Certification Logbook at 5-year intervals.
