Job description
What you will do in your working day
You will learn to maintain and repair customer's vehicle to an extremely high standard.
You will be working with up-to-date vehicle products and diagnostic technologies.
You will learn about vehicle operating electronic systems including alternative-fuelled vehicle systems such as full electric and hybrid vehicles.
Your duties will include but not limited to:
- General servicing and repairs. This requires the candidate to work to manufacturers’ guidelines, ensuring the vehicle is operating to its optimum performance
- The candidate will, through guidance and mentoring, learn processes and procedures to carry out vehicle technical repairs
- The candidate will be guided through more complex diagnostic and repair procedures involving electronic vehicle operating systems. Examples of this are ABS systems, electric engine management operating systems, electronic operating gearbox systems, electronic operating steering systems, ADAS operating systems, and infotainment systems
- Contributing to keeping the workplace clean and safe
- Participating in workplace-based training sessions
The training you will be getting
- Delivered at Harlow College, Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle) Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
- The Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship addresses a wide range of skills essential for working in the industry. General course core units (knowledge and skills and competence) include: health and safety in the motor industry, roles and responsibilities, workshop tools and equipment
- Technical units include: routine maintenance, engines, lubrication and cooling, fuel, ignition and air and exhaust, skills in engine units and components, electrical units, chassis systems, transmission system, inspecting using prescribed methods
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship and your Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance, you will be offered a role as Vehicle Technician with Auto Motor Excellence
- Salary will be negotiable and competitive. Upon securing a permanent position with us, you will have the opportunity to become certified to repair and service electric and hybrid vehicles
