Job description
Norwich High School is seeking a keen sportsperson to join our vibrant and ambitious PE Department as a Sports Assistant.
You will support the teaching of PE in both the Prep and Senior schools. This will include assisting with swimming and morning PE lessons, providing support with fixtures, trips and activities, umpiring matches and preparing resources for teaching and fixtures. You will also provide support to the PE department with a variety of administrative tasks. To be considered for this role you will have competed in or coached Cricket, Hockey, Netball or Swimming to a good level. You will also need strong communication skills, be well organised and willing to learn.
A swimming lifesaving qualification is required for this role, as you will be assisting with swimming lessons. However, the school will fund this so it can be obtained before you start.
There is an option to extend this contract beyond one year for the right candidate and an interest in this should be expressed at application.
A degree of flexibility is required for this post. Occasionally fixtures or tournaments can go beyond 5pm or extend over weekends. Your availability will be discussed and agreed with the Director of Sport and you may be given time off in lieu when necessary. You will also be expected to participate in training and other learning activities as required (for example, Staff Inset Days at the start of each term). Availability at lunchtime (12.30-2pm) and after school (4-5pm) for fixtures is also essential.
The salary for this post is GDST Support Staff Grade 1, £22,464 per year FTE (pro rata for term time only).
