Deputy Director of Dance (Vocational)

Job description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Deputy Director of Vocational Training, with a focus on the Dance provision at The Hammond. The post holder will support the Vice Principal (Director of Vocational Training) in the strategic co-ordination and delivery of the Dance provision, ensuring alignment with industry standards and fostering an environment of excellence and creativity. This post is an extended senior leadership position that requires a strong background in performing arts education, along with exceptional organisational, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
Main Responsibilities
- Strategic oversight: To work with closely with the Vice Principal (Director of Vocational Training) to formulate aims, objectives and strategic plans for the vocational division.
- Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Director of Vocational Training to design and refine curriculum frameworks for the Dance provision across The Hammond, incorporating industry trends, best practices, and pedagogical innovations.
- Line Management: Provide leadership and support to vocational staff, conducting regular observations and quality assurance, offering professional development opportunities, and fostering a culture of mentorship and collaboration within The Hammond's vocational team.
- To work with HR to onboard new vocational staff with a detailed induction. To monitor and maintain standards of teaching and learning.
- Cultivate a supportive and inclusive learning environment that empowers students to excel in their artistic endeavours at The Hammond, providing guidance, feedback, and encouragement as they progress through their training
- Industry & Outreach: Working closely with The Hammond’s Industry and Outreach team to establish and maintain relationships with industry professionals, casting directors, agents, and production companies to facilitate workshops, auditions, and networking opportunities for students at The Hammond.
- Progress and Attainment: Implement robust assessment mechanisms to evaluate and track student performance and attainment at The Hammond, utilising feedback to drive continuous improvement and innovation in vocational training.
- Compliance and Accreditation: Ensure that vocational courses at all levels of The Hammond meet regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, overseeing documentation, reporting, and compliance efforts as needed - including Level 6 Trinity.
- To uphold and exercise safeguarding procedures and policies in line with school policies and expectations.
- The ability to demonstrate good knowledge of Dance repertoire, techniques and practitioners, and to be responsible for engaging in ongoing professional development.
