Job description

Element has an opportunity for a Project Engineer to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team, the Engineer position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under minimal direct supervision. The engineer position must be proficient in a number of core business and technical skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures Aberdeen based

 

• Prioritises and supports safety behaviors and safety culture. Complies with and contributes to safety rules and procedures.
• Manages own time, assessing time inputted versus value added to maximise their effectiveness.
• Manages internal and external projects from enquiry / conceptualisation through to final close out. Will run multiple projects in parallel.
• Duties may include plus any other reasonable request aligned to the business as required by a manager:

• Interacting with customers / appropriate internal departments to establish project scope and deliverables.
• Ensuring appropriate information is communicated to internal and external stakeholders to manage expectations and ensure the smooth progression of work.
• Proactively problem solving to contribute to the correct delivery of work.
• Ensuring all records are evidenced, maintained and stored in accordance with the QMS.
• Producing detailed work instructions.
• Design, implementation and validation of new equipment, methods, analysis tools, etc.
• Hands-on testing activities.
• Indirect supervision of other staff.
• Review and checking of procedures, work instructions, reports, etc.

• Tracks project value and provides financial progress reports. Ensures correct order cover and evidences invoice amounts to minimise payment problems.
• Monitors departments and team members are working in line with quality requirements and procedures, supporting audits and finding resolution where required.

Essential Qualifications/Education, Skills and/or Experience:

 

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (BA, BSc, BEng) in an appropriate technical / scientific discipline, or equivalent vocational experience (i.e. minimum 3 years in a skilled technical role).
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and use of data driven actions.
• Communicates in a clear, concise manner with appreciation of implications to manage expectations.
• Good attention to detail with robust self-checking habits.
• A quick learner who is adaptive to and embraces change.

 

Desirable Skills and/or Experience:

 

• Track record of providing effective solutions in a technical environment.
• Working knowledge of an ISO 17025 test facility.
• Practical experience of mechanical assemblies, materials testing, fixture design, etc.
• Specialist knowledge relating to a relevant materials test subject (such as, fracture toughness, fatigue, sour environments, etc.).
• Project management of multiple scopes of work with conflicting priorities.
• Knowledge of NI software and Labview (or other programming language).
• Experience using Continuous Improvement disciplines such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TPM, etc.
• Shows personal accountability and takes final responsibility for leading the work of others
