Job description
Robert Half are working with a client in the higher education sector who is seeking a qualified Financial Accountant with expertise in Treasury and Fixed Assets for a key role within their organisation. As a leading figure in treasury planning, treasury management, and compliance, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in forecasting cash requirements, managing cash reserves, and ensuring liquidity needs are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Accounts Receivable team, implementing system and process improvements to minimise treasury risk and enhance cash management efficiency.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, reporting, and management of the organisation's endowment portfolio.
- Ensure the Accounts Receivable team adopts efficient practices, maintains robust processes, and provides excellent customer service to the organisation.
- Develop and implement a risk-based approach to keep the Accounts Receivable team up-to-date with training and aware of potential issues impacting the organisation.
- Manage debt collection policies, ensuring appropriate management of commercial and debt.
- Take overall responsibility for treasury planning, ensuring sufficient cash resources for the medium term (up to 5 years) and maintaining day-to-day liquidity.
- Develop and maintain detailed two-year rolling cash flow forecasts, actively using this information to inform treasury decisions.
- Act as the primary contact for banks/lenders on covenant compliance, reporting internally and externally on compliance.
- Actively manage cash resources in line with Treasury policy, ensuring surplus cash is appropriately invested.
- Maintain, review, and improve the Treasury Management Policy, presenting recommendations to relevant committees.
- Develop, manage, and implement foreign exchange policy, including reporting of currency gains/losses and recommending short-term hedging where appropriate.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of the Finance team's operational efficiency improvements, including treasury aspects.
- Ensure all treasury accounts in the finance system are appropriately controlled, and correct entries are included in financial statements.
- Undertake Capital Accounting for the organisation and its subsidiaries, providing reporting and technical advice.
- Lead the management of the organisation's endowment portfolio, ensuring appropriate utilisation for the benefit of stakeholders.
- Work with senior team members to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Demonstrate initiative in identifying improvement opportunities, resolving financial issues, and challenging established ways of working.
Your profile:
- Fully qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) with at least two years' relevant post-qualification experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to problem-solve technical accounting matters.
- Experience leading a customer-focused team.
- Experience in treasury management within an organisation of comparable size, or as a professional advisor or in financial services (desirable)
