Job description
What you will do in your working day
The job role will include various aspects of website development including front-end and back-end development in PHP.
You'll be working on a variety of web-based projects on a number of systems including:
- WordPress
- Laravel
- Our own bespoke CMS platform (EvoCMS)
Your work will initially be based around front-end development using technologies such as HTML, CSS/SCSS and Javascript/jQuery. It'll also include web graphic creation/manipulation and content population via CMS systems.
As you progress and your knowledge expands, we'll get you more involved in some of the back-end development using PHP to add more features and functionality to our websites.
You'll also have the ability to learn and will be given training in areas you are interested in, such as command-line and server management skills for example.
The training you will be getting Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard - Software Developer
- Level 4 Knowledge Module 1: Software Development Methodologies
- Level 4 Knowledge Module 2: Software Language
- Edexcel Level 2 Functional Skills English & maths (if required, exemptions apply)
Delivery will be at our Taunton campus, one day a week and apprentice will work alongside our degree students.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship Having run a number of apprenticeships in the past, we've a track record of hiring successful apprentices on completion of their course as Junior Developers which is a great way to further a career in the web industry. During your apprenticeship, you'll be working on and solving real-world problems on live websites and as such, you'll naturally build up an incredible amount of experience and a great portfolio of work during your apprenticeship.
