Location: Braintree, Essex

Salary: £38,578 to £42,796 per annum

Job Type: Full-Time, 1-Year Fixed Term Contract

Communications & Engagement Officer – The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Braintree District Council for an experienced Communications and Engagement Officer to join our flexible, award winning and driven Marketing and Communications team. This role is a one year fixed term contract. Hybrid working arrangements are available in this role (home/office based) subject to business need.

This is an opportunity to work within a friendly, skilled, and professional team who share a passion for delivering excellent services for local people.

Communications & Engagement Officer – Key Responsibilities:

– You will lead on developing and implementing effective communications for internal and external audiences including staff, residents and local communities, businesses, partners, government agencies, members, stakeholders and media

– You will also be jointly responsible, with the Programme Manager and Engagement Officer, for providing community insight and engagement

Communications & Engagement Officer – You:

We are looking for a creative, dynamic candidate who can demonstrate that they are a good communications all-rounder who also has experience in community engagement.

Candidates will therefore need to demonstrate the following:

– Experience of leading, creating and implementing effective communications plans as well as experience in advising on how best to communicate with an audience, using the most appropriate and available channels to drive public engagement

– You will need to be able to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and with multiple stakeholders and partners

– You will also need to be able to work independently, using creative skills to adapt, problem solve and deliver projects on time, whilst having the confidence to question and challenge ways of working, with an understanding of the bigger picture in terms of the corporate context and external environment

– It’s important that you have the relationship skills required to make connections and build relationships both with stakeholders and the local community

– You will have a degree/professional qualification in public relations and/or communications

– Ability to lead on proactive and reactive media activity and provide strategic media advice to senior officers

– Experience of using social media insight to shape communications and engage with the public

– Ability to create effective, engaging and informative content across multiple communications channels

– Experience in relationship management

– The ability to work to deadlines, on own initiative and under pressure
