Job description

We are seeking a creative and dedicated specialist Art and Design Technology Teacher to join our vibrant team at our esteemed independent girls' school. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for the visual arts, a commitment to fostering creativity, and the ability to inspire pupils to explore and develop their artistic talents. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the visual arts programme to ensure our girls are given freedom to explore aesthetic creativity through various mediums and promoting a love for artistic expression.

Alongside developing and implementing a comprehensive, modern, and engaging Art curriculum, you will be fully involved in the life of the Junior School, organising and curating art exhibitions and displays within the school to showcase pupils' artwork.

In keeping with our promise to help our girls become ‘Real World Ready’, the successful candidate will also be responsible for delivering our Design and Technology curriculum to pupils in Years 1 to 4. Our vision for Design Technology is forward thinking and innovative and provides a platform upon which pupils can showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Working in close collaboration with the creative elements of the curriculum and STEAM subjects, the successful candidate will encourage pupils to make connections with prior learning, and apply it to practical projects that will challenge and inspire in equal measure.

Small class sizes, conscientious and well-motivated students as well as a culture of working hard to achieve success ensure that this is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate.

At our school, girls want to learn, and care about each other’s success. Relationships with teachers are excellent, and you can focus on teaching your subject and developing future leaders in an environment where each individual, both staff and students, is known and valued.

About the School

Shrewsbury High School has been educating girls in the heart of Shrewsbury since 1885; our school is literally built into the historic Town Walls. We welcome students aged 4-18 and we were created to put girls first, always. As leaders in educating girls, we offer exceptional teaching, tailored to the way girls learn. We encourage them to experiment, have a go and be brave. This is aided by small class sizes, expert pastoral care, collaboration, and teamwork. In our recent ISI Inspection Report (Nov 2022) we have been recognised as Excellent in all areas.

Shrewsbury High School is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the UK’s leading family of independent girls’ schools. Being part of the GDST family of schools gives our staff the chance to share resources and innovative teaching opportunities, as well as a professional development framework to help you fulfil your ambitions. A culture of collaboration in the pursuit of excellence predominates and not only does this benefit our school, but also our staff who have access to the central expertise of the Trust’s Innovation and Learning team, which exists to support our teachers and schools in developing and delivering an outstanding education for all our pupils.

There are many good reasons to work with us. Shrewsbury High School has a real sense of community, and you’ll be part of it, and the wider GDST family. We also offer a variety of benefits, such as:
