Job Title: Utility Surveyor
Reporting to: Principal Surveyor
Role Purpose:
To carry out the survey, as per the Task Method Statement, to the requirements set out in the Commercial Handover Document and as given in the pre-site briefing. This would include the documentation, identification and recording of Utility apparatus by means of locating, marking and accurately data capturing all assets which have been located during the project.
Key Accountabilities:
- Leading or being an effective member of a surveying team on site.
- Deliver all required project objectives.
- Undertake all works safely, in alignment with our number 1 priority, which is Safety.
- Provide guidance through sharing experience, safe working practice, training & mentoring new or less experienced Utility Surveyors or Trainees on a planned competency programme and on an ad hoc basis that may work under your control on projects from time to time.
- You will be responsible for the safekeeping of the company vehicle and equipment issued to you allowing you to perform your role efficiently.
Key Competencies:
- Briefed prior to every survey by the Project Manager, Project Co-Ordinator or Senior Utility Surveyor, who will determine the survey boundaries and ensure all employees on site are aware of their responsibilities to return the most achievable survey results to the CAD Team.
- Effectively plan and execute works to ensure that site operations are delivered safely and efficiently.
- Working to the 80/20 planning v doing rule in order to maximise performance.
- Liaise with clients and main contractors as necessary to ensure that effective 2-way communications are established and maintained.
- Lead or work effectively with other Utility Surveyors and Trainee Surveyors in providing the Operations Manager, Project Co-Ordinator or Senior Utility Surveyor with completed survey reports to the required data quality format & output and within the required timescales.
- Provide accurate Risk Assessments & Method Statements.
- Undertake setting to work briefings and adhering to them on site.
- Leading by example always.
- Ensuring that site requirements are fully understood, executed and dynamically re-assessed and re-briefed to ensure effectiveness and responsiveness if the planned job is subject to unforeseen changes.
- Ensure that all legislative requirements are adhered to on-site, such as H&SWA/NRSWA/CDM etc.
- Ensure all Incidents, Near Misses and Minor Accidents are reported, in line with policy and procedures to your line manager
- Report daily, by the agreed method, to the Project Manager/Project Co-Ordinator at the start and finish of your working day’s survey(s), to ensure your individual or Team safety and well-being.
- Ensure daily activity reports are delivered to the correct standard of quality.
- Create Site-Specific Observation reports. These will include events which have prevented the expected outcome of the survey and are an essential part of all projects.
- Participate in lessons learned reviews and contribute to improvement of processes
- Propose ideas and innovations
- Work within task forces as nominated as part of our learning organisation approach
- You are expected to set a personal example
- Always Live the company values and follow company policies.
- You may be expected to temporarily undertake other comparable and developmental duties within other areas of the company as and when required to do so.
- As safety is our number 1 priority you are expected to highlight any specific areas under Health and Safety where there may be unexpected difficulties such as working conditions or equipment failures etc. to your Line Manager at the earliest opportunity.
- It is your responsibility to make sure you carry out your work in a safe manner.
- In no instance should any employee put themselves at risk. If you feel unsure as to any potential health & safety risk, then STOP, do not proceed until you have spoken to your line manager.
- Applicants must hold a valid driving licence for use in the UK as the role will involve travel to site locations.
Preferable Skills:
- CSCS card is essential
- A minimum of GCSE grade A-E in Mathematics and English.
- NRSWA certified.
- Minimum 2 years Utility Detection experience.
- Experience of using GPR as a method of detection
- Competent in use of Microsoft Office software suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Proactive nature and a desire to learn and develop self
- A minimum of QCF Level 3 Utility Surveying Qualification with an understanding of PAS128
Preferred but not essential
- GNVQ or Higher Technical qualification
- 5 GCSE’s or equivalent
- Related or similar experience
Operating Environment:
The role is predominately a field based role working from our Chelmsford office with days spent at the office as required. Night shifts and weekend shifts will be required. Travelling and working away from home will also be required.
Salary: up to £37,500 per annum, depending on experience
