Job description
Principal Engineer - Required to join a Steelwork Contractor that are based out of their Hampshire office. The Principal Engineer will be working for my client that works on structural steel projects within the rail and Civil Engineering sector across the UK. The Principal Engineer will be joining a well-established Design team and a company with ambitions of achieving and increase their turnover from £7million up to £15million.
Principal Engineer Position Overview
- Managing design and detailing of Civil & Structural engineering schemes, feasibility studies, inspections, surveys, and reports.
- Inspecting and supervising site works and undertaking contract administrative duties.
- Working effectively to manage the delivery of projects within cost, time, profitability, and quality requirements.
- In conjunction with the senior management team, oversee and manage CAD and Engineer resources with respect to delivery of projects.
- Preparing fee proposals and managing projects from inception to completion
- Assisting with identifying new projects and potential new Clients.
- Supervising, mentoring, and training employees with less experience, skills or qualifications.
- Complying with Health & Safety and CDM Regulations
- Assist in the continuous improvement of business processes to ensure that work is profitable and of the right quality and managed appropriately.
- Collaborating with Directors and leading colleagues on all aspects of the business, including commercial and management issues.
Principal Engineer Position Requirements
- Willing to occasionally be involved in overnight and weekend work when required e.g., in relation to rail possession works.
- Degree Qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered Engineer with The Institution of Civil Engineers or The Institution of Structural Engineers
- 6 years industry experience within Structural Steel, Bridges or Rail
- Experience working in a consultancy would be highly advantageous
- Experience with AutoCAD and Tekla
Principal Engineer Position Remuneration
- Annual salary up to £60k
- 40 hours per week typically 08:30 - 17:00 with ½ hr lunch break ( there is flexibility within this)
- Hybrid working considered with the requirement to visit our office in Hampshire 6 times a month.

- 30 days per year (22 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays) note 3 reserved for annual shutdown at Christmas
