About the Opportunity

The Specialist Consultancy and Laboratory Solutions business at Jacobs is recruiting for a Health Physics Surveyor to be based in Birchwood, Warrington to work with and support a team of highly qualified analysts, chemists, radiochemists and consultants whose principal activities are a mixture of chemical & radiochemical analyses, research and development projects, consultancy, rig builds and site-based support to the nuclear industry.

Responsibilities may include:

• Radiation surveillance monitoring
• Radiation and Radioactive Contamination Monitoring
• Production of radiological documentation such as Ionizing Radiation risk assessments
• Responding to Radiological Incidents
• Maintenance and Calibration of Health Physics Equipment
• Completion of legal documentation (such as clearance documents)

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 (Grade C) or above (or equivalent). This should include Mathematics, English, and at least 2 other science, technical or engineering subjects
• An A-Level in a Science or Engineering subject (Grade C or above)
• City and Guilds Level 1 in Radiation Protection or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection desirable
• Knowledge of the Ionising Radiation Regulations and radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols
• Experience of operational health physics, to include tasks such as radiation and contamination surveys and analysis of survey data, selection and use of radiological monitoring equipment, radioactive waste management and disposal, provision of radiation safety training to laboratory users, supervision of radiation work, response to minor radiological incidents (e.g. spillages, dropped samples, contaminated equipment).
• A talent for practical subjects and enjoy ‘hands on’ laboratory working
• The ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
• Confidence to work with Jacobs managers and health and safety professionals to promote a safe working environment.
