A Vacancy at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

We are looking for a proactive and highly motivated, registered pharmacist to join our Cancer Services Pharmacy Team operating across the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital.

This is a full-time role for 1 WTE (plus on call commitment) focusing mainly on Oncology. This is a new post funded by the West Midlands Cancer Alliance (WMCA) for 2 years.

This post is an excellent development opportunity for a band 7 pharmacist looking for career development in an Annex 21 position. for 12 months.

Depending on the candidate’s previous experience a review will take place after 12 months to 18 months. Following successful completion and attainment of skills and competencies, progression to band 8a will be considered.

Previous experience of oncology and haematology is not essential as training and support will be given although a sound working knowledge of aseptics will be a definite advantage.

We have implemented e-prescribing for Cancer Services which has streamlined our working processes to ensure improved patient safety and patient experience.

This is a great opportunity for you to play a key role in developing a growing function at SATH. There is plenty of scope for you to develop your expertise and management skills in this post.

Cancer Services Clinical Service
• To lead in Oncology within Cancer Services in accordance with priorities set by the Pharmacist Team Lead Cancer Services.
• Function as an Independent Prescriber (IP)
• To clinically screen all chemotherapy prescriptions
• Liaise closely with multidisciplinary healthcare staff.
• To support the Outsourcing and Aseptic Services Pharmacy Team.
• To work closely with the Senior Pharmacy Technicians and Aseptic Services
• To work with the Outsourcing and Aseptic Services Pharmacy Team to actively manage waste associated with outsourcing SACT.

You should be able to clearly demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively, work proactively under pressure and prioritise your own workload to meet challenging deadlines.

The Cancer Services Pharmacy team provides an expert support service to the clinical teams. Reporting to the Pharmacist Team Lead for Cancer Services you will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team covering medicines management and chemotherapy outsourcing.

The Pharmacy Cancer Team currently consists of five Band 8a Pharmacists and a Pharmacist Team Leader. We cover Oncology, Haematology, Clinical Trials and Paediatric Oncology Services.

We work very closely with our Aseptic Team and Outsourcing Team to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective and efficient service.

We are a very friendly team and have great working relationships with the clinicians and nursing staff within cancer services.
