We’re supporting our client, a leading global manufacturer based in Basildon, who are looking for a Supply Chain Manager (Automotive) to join their growing team. The successful Supply Chain Manager (Automotive) will have experience of managing the complete life cycle of a product through the supply chain.
Position Overview: The Supply Chain Manager (Automotive) manages an international supply chain with an inventory for a high number of SKU’s and hundreds of suppliers. Managing and improving the performance of this supply chain based on key metrics is vital to support operational and commercial success. Using key metrics and KPI’s to provide accountability within the supplier chain and define improvement targets is key within this role.
Responsibilities for Supply Chain Manager (Automotive):
Supply Chain Strategy:
- Contribute to the development of supply chain strategies and initiatives aligned with our goals and objectives, Supporting Planners with supplier relationships and ensuring lead times are planned for efficient Production planning.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimisation within the supply chain.
- Demand Forecasting and Planning
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to forecast demand and develop procurement plans accordingly.
- Continuous research and sourcing (window shopping) to obtain and analyse quotations always ensuring best product and price, benchmarking against competition and liaising with.
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust plans to prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Evaluate and select suppliers/vendors based on criteria such as quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure margin management, negotiating best delivered cost and ensure recovery action of
- cost price increases.
- Continually assess current supplier base with periodic reviews, reporting performance and
- initiate corrective action.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers to ensure consistent and timely deliveries.
Procurement and Sourcing:
- Coordinate with our Commercial director to ensure timely procurement of products.
- Contribute to optimise procurement processes to minimise lead times and reduce costs.
Logistics and Distribution:
- Liaise with our logistics Manager to ensure timely delivery of products to customers.
- Work with our Logistics Manager to ensure swift delivery times and targets are being met.
Inventory Management:
- Implement inventory optimisation strategies to balance carrying costs and service levels.
- Proactive reduction of back orders, delivery, and invoice errors, to meet our customer needs and maintain high level customer service
- Manage and reduce exposure to aged stock through robust product lifecycle management and SMART KPI Objectives
- Oversee inventory control processes, including cycle counts and reconciliation.
Risk Management:
- Ensure products are classified to manage risk.
- Conduct regular reviews of stock holding, lead times, global supply chain trends, instigate and manage remedial action in conjunction with Inventory control and Product Managers.
- Identify potential risks within the supply chain, such as disruptions, shortages, and regulatory changes.
- Review, support and assist with required technical, compliance and legislation gathering throughout the supply chain as and when changes or improvements have been identified
- Develop contingency plans and mitigation strategies to minimise the impact of supply chain disruptions.
Data Analysis/Reporting:
- Supply Chain Improvements. Through continual market analysis, key supply chain metric review and liaison with Sales and Warehouse to ensure suppliers and products are fit for purpose. Drive improvements with Suppliers.
- Gathering and presenting data to our Commercial Director to highlight supplier performance.
- Gather and analyse supply chain data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports for management to provide insights into supply chain performance.
General:
- Responsible for their own performance, and to support their team in, achieving all targets and job standards set out by the Senior Management.

About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in global supply chain management and continuous improvement linked to SMART KPI’s
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with procurement software or tools.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities to address issues and find efficient solutions.
- Strong team player with a proactive and collaborative attitude.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proven negotiation experience
- CIPS Qualified
- Understand the needs of the business along with the flexibility to change according to requirements. Experience in global supply chain management and continuous improvement linked to SMART KPI’s.
