What you will do in your working day
The work is physically active and demanding, with a lot of bending, stretching and lifting, both inside or out, in varying weather conditions, and you mustn’t mind getting your hands dirty!
Good hand-to-eye co-ordination is essential. You should be a good organiser, planning and thinking ahead. You need an enquiring mind, and enjoy working with machinery. Instructions must be followed as well as safety rules and procedures. A willingness to travel is essential so a driving licence is preferred.
Duties include, but not limited to:
- Cutting, drilling, shaping and preparing METAL materials during fabrication activities using manual and power tools, thermal and laser cutting, as required calculating dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments/equipment
- Interpret technical drawings, patterns, templates and specifications to mark out, produce and assemble complex fabricated products to meet the required specification and quality requirements.
- Use appropriate tools, equipment and techniques to shape and form (HOT or COLD) metal materials, demonstrating and applying knowledge of material properties and characteristics throughout.
The training you will be getting
- We are committed to Training and you can be sure of the best training available.
- We anticipate that you will attend Wigan and Leigh College to achieve NVQ level 3 in Metal Fabrication, with course fees and reasonable travel expenses paid by the Company.
- The training is delivered on a day and/or block release basis.
- In between the study periods, you will work in our Plant Yard in Burscough, applying your new knowledge in a real ‘work environment’, and assessed on-site by the college and the business.
