Job description
Organisation: The Clerkes of All Saints, York
The Clerkes of All Saints is one of Yorkshire's leading liturgical chamber choirs. We bring top-quality music to parish churches in North and East Yorkshire which don't currently benefit from choral singing in their regular worship. We also provide choral music for weddings across Yorkshire.
We operate on a repertoire basis, with music ranging from C16th to contemporary, and regularly add new pieces to the list as well as for specific events.
All our members are strong sight-readers and experienced singers, and we rehearse without accompanist. Because we only meet once a month, rehearsals go at a fair pace; we focus less on note-bashing and more on ensemble and musicality.
We're also a very friendly and sociable bunch who enjoy getting together after rehearsals and gigs. If you'd like more information about the choir please visit www.clerkes.org.
We are looking for a new musical director who:
- has wide experience and knowledge of church music including Anglican chant and service formats
- is comfortable conducting wide-ranging repertoire from 16th to 21st century music
- is able to lead monthly rehearsals in central York, a varying number of services and weddings (approx. 8 a year) and occasional cathedral residencies
- can lead a fast-paced rehearsal with good humour
Remuneration is paid by annual honorarium and details of this are available on application.
If you wish to apply please email your CV and cover letter to [email protected]. The closing date for applications is 24th March 2024.
