We are now looking for an Assistant Ranger to join our team on a full-time basis for a fixed-term contract until March 2025.

The Role
As an Assistant Ranger, you will play a key role within the Ranger Team delivering park management projects and supporting volunteers and apprentices.
You’ll undertake the signing, waymarking and maintenance of public rights of way, other access and related field furniture, monitor erosion repair and site management works and dispose of litter.
Acting as an ambassador for the National Park Authority, you’ll engage with visitors and patrol common and access land, providing assistance, advice and explaining relevant byelaws.
Additionally, you will:
- Assist emergency services
- Liaise with the local community
- Ensure the effective and efficient use of resources across the Ranger Service
- Assist with activities and events, such as educational visits
- Contribute to the collection and analysis of data
About You
To be considered as an Assistant Ranger, you will need:
- Experience of using hand tools, strimmers, brushcutters and chainsaws
- Experience of working with and engaging volunteers
- Working knowledge of rights of way and access management
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Organisational and time management skills
- At a minimum, Level four (Grade C) GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
- A full, valid driving licence
Please note, this role will involve undertaking a range of practical activities and travelling across all areas of Dartmoor.
This role requires weekend and bank holiday work, as per the rota which covers seven days per week. There will also be a requirement to work occasional evenings (e.g., for attendance at Parish Council meetings).
