Job description


The Estates Department operate and maintain, energy and environmental resources, controls, electrical and mechanical services providing power, lighting, heating, air conditioning to wards, outpatients and operating theatres. Estates directly impacts on patient welfare, frontline clinical care, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency and sustainability across the Estates Trust.
We have an exciting opportunity for a committed highly self-motivated individual. The Royal Marsden is looking for an Estates Officer Entry Level to join the Estates Team in Chelsea . This is a highly valuable broad ranging role, which will expose Estates Officer Entry Level to the whole range of Estates services including mechanical, electrical, building & energy control systems and project management. The candidate must be highly proactive in developing their technical knowledge in all aspects of training and work undertaken, engage in active discussions about skills, techniques, methods and approach to tasks in order to develop as a skilled professional. The Estates Department is responsible for providing Estates Services encompassing operations and maintenance of buildings, plant, building services and infrastructure and external grounds used by the Trust. This includes managing and providing a resilient and competent Estates service which protects the Trust from business continuity risks and has effective plans for disaster recovery.

The role requires working effectively within the team spanning Service Managers, Estates Officers, Technicians and Supervisors and tradesman, as well as contractors, consultants and specialists to provide optimum compliant solutions and services. Work with all Estates staff and stakeholders to support the safe execution of planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance and minor capital projects and works for the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

• Support Estates Department with managing maintenance services, contracts and overseeing remedial works across two hospital sites Chelsea and Sutton
• Undertake inspections and condition surveys of multi-million-pound Projects and providing feedback to Project Managers and Design team.
• Work with Estates and Project staff and consultants, contractors /suppliers /manufacturers to identify optimum maintenance tasks and remedial works.
• Develop snagging and defect list of Project works both work in progress and on completion.
• Investigate operational defects and handover documents and drawings to establish solutions.
• Identify inspections /tasks /actions to maintain statutory compliance of plant and building services.
• Undertake hands on installation, maintenance and make safe works to support continuity of Estates support services /supplies and Estates Manager needs.
• To be responsible for personal PPE and tools /equipment and undertaking all necessary risk assessments and method statements before undertaking physical works.
• Maintain a logbook of projects /site knowledge /lessons learnt from actual work undertaken, which provides evidence of development and experience to support membership applications to professional engineering /building institutions.
• Act as a engineering and management support to the Chelsea site to support Estates Officers /Managers, Supervisors and Maintenance Craftsman.
• Use academic studies, research, suppliers /manufacturers /contractors and Estates staff to continuously drive knowledge of the Building and Engineering Services and systems in NHS/Trust premises.
• Ensure Buildings and Engineering infrastructure /service are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner
