Job description
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and progressive working herd manager for an exceptional 500 cow robot unit close to Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
The farm enjoys excellent facilities including 8x Lely robots, excellent handling facilities and many automated features with a high degree of mechanisation all within a well laid out farm footprint. The AYR calved herd is cubicle housed on mattresses and sawdust in modern bright airy sheds, is fed a TMR ration with low yielding cows able to graze during the day throughout spring and summer with use of automatic gates on the robots.
Working alongside the farm owners and heading up the team you will undertake the day-to-day management of the herd and the staff. You will ensure the farms performance is further enhanced through proactive management of the cows and the staff.
You will work closely with the vets, nutritionists, and advisors, leading by example and undertaking your role with a hands-on approach. Fertility, foot health, herd health and vaccinations will be under your remit alongside daily record keeping and staffing rotas.
The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role, a proven track record of performance and will be an excellent communicator, keen to develop and motivate the team through their approach and by example.
