Job description
Full-Time PE and Games Teacher from 1 May 2024
St Anthony’s School for Boys is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified Teacher of PE to help build upon the very high standards of this lively, inclusive and highly successful department. The person appointed will teach PE and promote Games across the whole school.
The school’s major sports are Football, Rugby and Cricket. The ability to take on teacher-in-charge of Rugby would be an advantage for applicants.
The successful candidate will participate fully in school life, contributing to the taught curriculum and co-curricular programme. They will be ambitious for the boys in their care as well as themselves.
Main demonstrable skills - General Teaching and Learning
- To prepare lessons and deliver the curriculum in a manner appropriate to the age and ability of the pupils concerned, following the agreed syllabus or scheme of work.
- To keep records of attendance for each class taught.
- To ensure good order prevails in the classroom so that learning can take place.
- To contribute to the department’s system of assessment of pupils.
- To participate with the Head of Sport and in the development of appropriate syllabi, materials and schemes of work, leading a subject area.
- To keep up with developments in relevant subject areas.
- To be aware of and play an appropriate part in the implementation of all school policies, as described in the Staff Handbook, including regulations relating to safety.
- To participate in the school’s system of reporting on pupil progress and behaviour at appropriate times.
- To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues and parents.
- To carry out a share of supervisory duties and cover arrangements in accordance with published rotas.
- To attend assemblies and other formal occasions as required.
- To perform in accordance with any directions which may reasonably be given to you by the Headteacher from time to time.
Teaching PE, Fixtures and Co-Curricular Clubs
- To undertake a designated programme of teaching across all year groups as required.
- To be confident and creative when teaching curriculum PE and Swimming in KS1, KS2 & KS3 lessons.
- Be a role model for students, inspiring them to be actively interested in PE.
- Prioritise and manage time effectively, ensuring continued professional development in line with the role.
- Have excellent knowledge in umpiring and refereeing in a variety of team games - experience in playing and coaching Rugby would be an advantage
- Be confident to run tournaments, matches and competitions in house and externally.
- Be knowledgeable and confident to teach gymnastics.
- Be qualified to teach swimming, or willing to gain the qualification.
- Be committed to running co-curricular sports’ clubs throughout the week, including before and after school.
- To have excellent (or highly functional) ICT skills.
Pastoral Care
- Become a Form Tutor in KS2 or KS3
- Guide and support pupils in their personal, emotional and social development.
