Job description
What you will do in your working day
You will be responsible for a wide-range of caretaking tasks for the school site and ensuring the general upkeep of the building fabric and grounds are maintained including but not limited to:
- Ensure security on the premises e.g., lock/unlock access doors, carry out visual inspections, checking fire and burglar alarms, maintain emergency equipment
- Ensure health and safety on premises e.g., carry out inspections, write health and safety records, check emeregency exits are accessible, check for legionella, liaise with external contractors
- Eneregy and resource management e.g., reporting on energy consumption, monitor temperature control, procurement of supplies, receive and check for deliveries, check stock levels
- Maintenance of building e.g., maintain heating plant equipment, minor maintenance to furniture, equipment, external fabrics, reactive maintenance
- Waste and environmental management e.g., collect and safely dispose waste materials, snow clearing, outside areas are maintained and tidy, drain gutter and pipes
- Liaise with and escort external contractors when they come to site and carry out appropriate safety checks and measures
- Maintain a positive relationship with internal and external customers of the school including staff, students, parents
The training you will be getting
Your training will be provided by both your Employer and Grey Seal Academy. All training is delivered face to face at the workplace either on site or videoconferencing; this includes x1 training session and x1 coaching session per month.
You will have access to an online portfolio and virtual learning environment to assist your training and assessment during your programme.
During the Apprenticeship you will learn the following topics:
- Support the delivery of the responsibilities of the Facilities
Services function in complying with health and safety and other legislation and organisational policies and procedures - Address FM-related risks, hazards and threats to people, property and premises
- Provide customer service to internal and external customers to ensure the effective delivery of a range of facilities services
- Support good sustainable practice in FM
- Maintain soft FM services
- Gather FM-related information for continuous improvement purposes
- Deliver front-of-house services
- Support hard FM functions
- Maintain and develop competence in the FM industry/sector
- Support the delivery of FM projects
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain the following qualifications and Standard:
- Facilities Services Operative Level 2 Standard
- Certificate in Facilities Services Principles Level 2
- Functional Skills in mathematics Level 1/2 (if applicable)
- Functional Skills in English Level 1/2 (if applicable)
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- The employer will look to keep you on as a permenant employee upon completion of your apprenticeship
