Head of strategic financial planning and control

Guildford Permanent £55,000 - £60,000 per year

About Our Client

Leading Surrey based health and wellbeing Charity are looking to recruit a Head of strategic financial planning & control candidate. This is a new role which will lead the next phase of development of the Charities finance function and finance strategy, aligned to the planning and implementation of our new organisational strategy and operating model.

Undertake a review of our finance operating model, including systems, policies, processes and controls with a review to developing a finance transformation project which ensures that the finance function is optimised to support delivery of our new organisational strategy;

Developing, implementing and embedding the required transformation and changes to systems, policies and processes across the organisation;

Collaborating with the Director of organisational effectiveness and finance, Senior leadership team and Heads of department to develop and embed a robust finance strategy which supports the delivery of our organisational strategy and aligns with our growth aspirations;

Leading the preparation and implementation of a multi-year plan and annual budget aligned with our business planning and programme management processes;

timely forecasts of income and expenditure are in place and any risks or variances are identified;

Further develop our management accounts, reporting and strategic finance information to support informed decision making across the organisation based on robust data in support of financial management and monitoring and evaluation of financial performance;

Job Description

Continue to develop our costing, pricing and commercial models in support of our membership, income generation, commercial and programme activities;

Collaborate across the organisation to provide strategic finance support and finance business partnering to support the development of funding bids, commercial opportunities and other plans and priorities using robust project and cost models;

Develop and maintain an effective system of financial controls that ensure the safeguarding of charity assets and the reliability of the financial statements;

Lead the preparation and production of the annual report and accounts (consolidated and subsidiary company accounts) in liaison with the auditors to ensure the timely delivery of the year-end process and filing of the statutory accounts in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements;

Responsibility for preparation, checking and submission of quarterly VAT returns for all relevant group companies and corporation tax returns on an annual basis;

Working with the Head of HR, finance and HR functions to co-ordinate and manage payroll and wider staff benefit offers (i.e. pension scheme / life insurance);

Review and management of capital expenditure on tangible and intangible assets on an annual basis, as well as project specific in-year additions, managing the asset register, depreciation and write offs;

Oversight for all accounts payable and accounts receivable processes and ledgers;

To ensure that the charity's accounting policies, systems and records comply with all legal, regulatory and taxation requirements.

The Successful Applicant

ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant

Experience of leading a finance function in a not-for-profit or public sector organisation

Significant senior level financial leadership, management and oversight.

Experience of working closely with Trustee or other NED/ Board executives

Experience of preparing multi-year financial plans and budgets, modelling scenarios and carrying out sensitivity analysis

Engagement with auditors and management of year end audit and statutory accounts production

Commercially and financially astute.

Collaborative, open and flexible.

Emotionally intelligent, with strong interpersonal skills.
