Job description
Strong Group are working with an reputable construction contractor who specialising in the construction of steel frame system buildings across a diverse range of sectors who are involved in a range of high profile construction projects. Our client is looking for an Estimator to join their pre-construction team based in North Yorkshire.
Must have 2+ years’ estimating experience within the steel fabrication / structural steel market sector and understand the load bearing market (May consider candidates with building envelope experience, such as: façades, rainscreens, cladding, aluminium steel frame systems, dry lining etc.)
Title: Estimator Salary : £28K – £45K (DOE)

Office-Based
The successful Estimator will support the profitable growth of the contractor and associated companies, by ensuring estimates are carried out for the company’s supply, assemble, and install services. You’ll also oversee and supervise the junior estimators development.
Estimators roles & responsibilities:
- Estimating of Load Bearing LSF supply and install
- Responsible for the estimating of all other supplies and services offered by the contractor and associated companies
- Log and record enquiries on the enquiry log and maintain enquiry log with project tender updates.
- Produce quotes in line with the inhouse system
- Identify labour, materials, plant, and time requirements by studying proposals, budgeting, specification, and related documents.
- Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, specifications, and related documents.
- Present prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information to client using inhouse software and documentation in a timely manner and in line with customer requirements.
- Update pricing with input from the QS / Commercial department on actual site costs
- Prioritise your estimating workload daily.
- Accurate recording of all quotes issued and liaising with clients post tender.
- Prepare take offs, bill of quantities, mark-ups, and Tech reviews to allow the accurate pricing of enquiries.
- Produce accurate technical reviews/reports on all schemes
- Communicate and issue required information to 3rd party suppliers of goods and services to obtain prices to allow accurate pricing and inclusion
- Communication with clients throughout the tender process
- Collaborative working with the QS to assist in variations
- Grow revenue by identifying opportunities, generating sales and enquiries throughout the tender process
- Support products and solutions to develop/ increase value and profitability.
- Deliver and expedite information and Tech Reviews/Quotes etc from 3rd party suppliers to allow the estimating team to progress quotes.
- Build relationships with key customers, new customers, industry, and market influencers
Estimator Requirements:
- Must have 3+ years’ estimating experience within the steel fabrication / structural steel market sector and understand the load bearing market (May consider candidates with building envelope experience, such as: façades, rainscreens, cladding, aluminium steel frame systems, dry lining etc.)
- Ability to read structural engineer drawings, scopes and specifications and produce take offs
- Ideally will have minimum HNC/HND or equivalent in a construction related field
- IT literate in Microsoft Office
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
- Effective time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
