What you will do in your working day

• Understand and operate health, safety and welfare systems in the workplace including identification of hazards, assess risks, comply with the statutory requirements, and support a good culture of HSE&Q.
• Understand the need for and with support be able to plan and prepare accurate, resourced, and achievable work schedules.
• Use IT systems to obtain, understand, evaluate, and use project information.
• Engage with other team members and stakeholders as required.
• Have a reasonable understanding of client specifications and requirements.
• Assist with planning and setting up work as required.
• Assist in the control of workspace and assist in the safe and effective delivery of work to meet the quality standards.
• Assist in the monitoring and control of works and help in reporting and implementing corrective action when required.
• Assist in the preparation and delivery of appropriate tests, collation, checking and verification that information is to the agreed standards and requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of Method Statements and Risk Assessments, programmes, monitoring progress and variations to the plan.
• Assist in the preparation of material requirements, prepare orders, monitor supply and maintain records. 

The training you will be getting

At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board.

Over 21 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. This may include Functional Skills in English and maths if required. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at VINCI Technology Centre who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career. 

Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.

The best part? You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme!

We are looking for a long-term relationship with our apprentices and we have a long-term career structure in mind, whereby we see the apprentice developing into senior roles within our business as it grows. 

Through practical training on the job, you will acquire new skills and gain the competence and responsibility required for laboratory testing. This apprenticeship program serves as a stepping-stone towards a rewarding career in laboratory testing, with the added opportunity for the apprentice to become a registered Science technician (RSci Tech).

This apprenticeship can also help pave the way for further educational and professional advancement such as our Level 6 Bachelor of Science (BSc) Applied Materials Science Apprenticeship, enabling you to take on more specialised roles or progress into leadership positions.
