Maternity Nurse with Twin Experience Needed

Start Date: Early June, 2024 (duration of booking TBC)
Salary: Negotiable (DOE)
Location: Camberwell, SE5
Charges: Newborn twins

This family are welcoming twins to their family of three in late May, 2024 and would love to secure an experienced maternity nurse who has great experience with twins to support them. Both parents are hands on and this is not their ‘first rodeo’ but they will need help in the early stages following the birth and would love to find someone who is flexible to work both days and / or evenings depending on what is needed. This family take a gentle approach to parenting and would like to find a nanny who is gentle and kind.

The Role

The maternity nurse will be expected to carry out the following duties:

1. **Newborn Care**: This includes comprehensive care for the newborn twins, such as feeding them, changing their diapers, giving them baths, and helping with sleep schedules. Though the family are not focussed on rigid sleep schedules.
2. **Health and Development Monitoring**: The nurse will also be tasked with monitoring the twins' health and development. This involves tracking their growth, observing for any signs of illness, and ensuring they reach their developmental milestones at the appropriate times.
3. **Parental Support and Advice**: The nurse will provide advice and support to the parents. This could range from offering guidance on how to soothe a crying baby to providing tips on how to manage feeding and sleeping schedules.
4. **Light Household Duties**: The nurse will also assist with some light household duties related to the care of the twins. This may include washing the twins' clothes, cleaning their bottles, and maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of their nursery.
5. **Emergency Preparedness**: The nurse should be prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise, such as dealing with minor injuries or sudden illnesses. They should have basic first aid training and knowledge of infant CPR.
6. **Communication**: Regular communication with the parents about the twins' progress, changes in routine, or any concerns is an important part of the role.
7. **Flexibility**: Given that newborns have unpredictable schedules and needs, the nurse should be flexible to work both days and/or evenings depending on what is needed.

The basics
to be considered for this role, we would ask candidates to have the following in place:

- **Education and Certification**: Preferably a degree in nursing, paediatrics, or a related field and / or a certification in maternity nursing from a reputable institution.
- **Experience**: Extensive experience working with newborns, preferably twins or multiple births.
- **First Aid and CPR**: Must have current certification in first aid and infant CPR.
- **Health Screening**: Must be up-to-date with all necessary health screenings and immunisations, with a clean bill of health.
- **References**: Excellent references from previous employers.
- **Special Skills**: Knowledge in lactation support, sleep training, and infant nutrition is preferred.
- **Personal Qualities**: Patience, compassion, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
- **Record check:** an up to date DBS check
