An opportunity has arisen at YHA Truleigh Hill for Duty Manager, this role also has the potential to develop into a Deputy Manager Role, should the right candidate apply. The role will require leading on the day to day management of the operations of the site, as the Hostel Manager also runs other sites. This is a great opportunity for someone that want the chance to make a first step into Hostel Management, but with the support of an experienced Manager.
YHA Truleigh Hill is nestled in the Heart of the South Downs National Park, in a hill top location with amazing views. We are just 4 miles from Shoreham by Sea, and just 10 miles from Brighton.
Truleigh Hill is a 52 bed hostel, with additional camping, glamping and a seasonal café open to the public. With a great mix of groups, families and individuals, no two days are the same. The Team Member role will include housekeeping, catering and reception duties. Live in accommodation is available - this will be a private single room in a shared flat. We offer a 35 hour flexible contract - but throughout the season, hours are likely to average nearer 35-40 a week.

The Role: Supporting Excellence in Hostel Operations
As a Duty Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the management of an operational budget and the delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). You will also be engaged in various customer-facing duties across the hostel, ensuring all guests and visitors have an outstanding YHA experience.
Your Responsibilities
Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Utilising our systems for efficient guest check-ins, check-outs and other management functions.
Carrying out cleaning and housekeeping duties, maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for our guests.
Assisting in the kitchen and serving food and drinks with warmth and hospitality, enhancing the dining experience, while engaging in authentic, inclusive conversations. Suggesting enjoying dinner with us or offering a beverage or dessert as you assist with table service, ensuring a diverse and welcoming experience for all guests.
Deputising for the Hostel Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.
What Skills and Experience We Value
Our Duty Manager role requires flexibility to cover different shifts and tasks. While prior experience in a face-to-face customer service role is an advantage, it's not essential. However, experience in hospitality or customer service, especially in managing and delivering high-quality service, is highly beneficial.
Desirable qualifications include Food Safety Level 2 and APLH Level 2, but they are not mandatory. Essential requirements include experience in managing varying pressures, including significant workload demands, and team management.
We highly value lived experiences just as much as previous skills and knowledge. We offer a comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and further development. While some of our roles may have specific skills requirements, we encourage team members from diverse backgrounds to apply.
Good communication skills and basic IT proficiency are advantageous, and excellent time management is essential in our dynamic environment.
