About the Opportunity

Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Senior Radioactive Waste Inventory Consultant to join our Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal business. The role can be based at Harwell, Dorchester or Birchwood and other locations will be considered. Throughout the lifecycle for waste management, the waste inventory is key to underpinning decision making and ensuring compliance. The successful candidate will provide inventory expertise to a range of projects, from waste-stream specific analysis up to the management, review and interpretation of nationally important datasets such as the UK’s waste inventory and the inventory for geological disposal. You will be part of a team providing key services to the clients in the UK and overseas on a range of consultancy and ‘hands-on’ waste management projects and proposals. The vacancy provides an excellent opportunity for those wishing to develop their careers in our technically and commercially challenging business.

You will have the opportunity to support or lead client relationships and projects, provide advice and deliver technical reports in line with client and regulatory requirements. You will also be supported to develop your skills and experience, as well as offered opportunities to build a successful career and lead technical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Senior Waste Inventory Consultant, you will provide technical expertise on a wide variety of projects for customers including radioactive waste management organisations, radioactive waste producers and regulators, both in the UK and overseas. Work includes a wide variety of activities across the areas of integrated radioactive waste management, spent fuels and nuclear materials including:

o critical analysis of uncertainties of input sources

o Calculating radioactive decay and ingrowth, including helium generation

o Modelling burnup of nuclear fuel

o Presentation and communication of the data

o Analysis and manipulation of datasets to explore and underpin waste management strategies
