Recra has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Steelwork Estimator to join a fantastic privately owned business who have been established since 1981, who have grown from strength to strength through being a business with a sense of purpose, due to their expertise within the construction market and offering specialist design and clear engineering advice and delivering high-quality, cost-efficient solutions.
Steelwork Estimator Reports to: Operations Director.
Main Purpose of the role: - Work with the directors to evaluate tender enquiries for progression and prepare and submit estimates for steelwork projects.
- Liaise with clients to clarify the scope of works, interpret specifications and quantities from drawings, obtain quotes for projected material, equipment, and labour requirements in collaboration with the buying team and calculate budget cost estimates for the manufacture and installation of the project.
- Able to assess risk and health and safety requirements when calculating cost.
- Work closely with internal delivery teams to increase competitive edge in estimates through analysis of GM, past experience, and client feedback.
- To participate in the EMS management system, attending development meetings, undertaking COSHH risk assessments in conjunction with the workshop supervisor and EMS system implementation and operational management.
Team Key Performance Indicators:
- To manage operational budgets 95% of planned costs each month.
- To assist in the achievement of +10% site efficiency/productivity every 3 months.
Priority tasks:
- Lead on implementing a consistent costing system, comprising standard costing and quotation sheets and estimating templates; developing and maintaining shared supplier price lists in collaboration with the planning and procurement team; regular review of company T & C's with QS for sales documentation.
- Assist in the attainment of ISO 9001 Quality and 14001 Environmental certification, on developing, implementing and managing EMS systems within the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Estimating:
- Assess tender bids on pipedrive & prioritise in line with directors guidance.
- Create tender packages for clients, returning within client bid deadlines.
- Discuss/develop scope with clients, interpret requirements and communicate solutions.
- Attend NOR meetings prior to contract launch to assist handover to P & L Mgr.
Cost Control/budgets:
- Source prices & delivery dates for materials, transport, labour & equipment hire.
- Obtain fabrication & installation time estimates in liaison with works & contracts mgrs.
- Create cost breakdowns (aligned to nominal codes where possible).
- Maintain detailed records, storing all relevant documentation in shared files & pipedrive.
- Keep up to date with current prices and maintain shared pricing records with buyers.
Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality:
- Report instances of non-conformance impacting quality, cost and delivery failures.
- Comply with company procedures and legal obligations at all times, promoting best practices.
Hours of work:
- 7.30am - 5pm - Monday to Thursday.
- 7.30am - 3pm - Friday.
