College & Career Counselor / Teacher

You Can Make a Difference:
Seeking a College & Career Counselor with experience connecting students with options for life after high school. You will balance a part-time teaching load with an average of six students per class, coordinating our AP Path program, supporting the boarding program, and providing expert guidance with students seeing University and Career options around the world. Here's how we envision this role:
College and Career Advising (approximately 10 hours/week, depending on application cycle)
Provide university, gap year, and career guidance to approximately 20 US Program students total across grades 11-12
- Meet regularly with students, individually and in groups, to help them explore career options and future pathways for education and experience.
- Manage and support student university application materials, processes, including supervising requests for transcripts, teacher letters of recommendation, and counselor/school letters of recommendations.
- Offer student workshops for bigger topics: Finding passions, completing applications, checking portals, financial aid applications, TLORs, etc.
- Assist with PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP Test Preparation and Administration.
- Develop and maintain relationships with colleges through attendance at conferences, counselor information meetings, and college visits.
- Represent the college counseling program at school events.
- Organize university tours in Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe.
- Manage requests for university visits and support student attendance.
AP Path Program Coordination (approximately 2 hours/week - training available for strong candidates who do not yet have AP experience)
- Provide guidance to students with goals that include Advanced Placement courses.
- Understand the role of AP courses in applying to universities in Europe and the US
- Connect and provide support to advisors for student AP course selection.
- Maintain records of AP course teacher certification and support teachers in receiving AP teacher certification in their subject areas.
- Provide information and advice to the Dean of the U.S. Program on AP course offerings with a one to two year time horizon.
Teaching and Boarding Duties
- Teach two academic courses in the mornings (our preference is English or Social Sciences, but we are open to other subject areas that you are qualified to teach).
- Support the boarding program as a family head.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Minimum 2 years of prior experience in university advising/counseling role
- Familiar with university application systems, including UCAS, Studielink, Common App, etc.
- Familiar with universities in the United States and Europe, including the UK
- Safe Space Training and/or Cultural Competency Training
- Computer skills (including proficiency with Google suite) and experience with college counseling software, preferably Unifrog
- Strong verbal communication skills, including public speaking
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Highly organized and self motivated
- Highly professional and able to maintain a strong code of ethics
- Able to maintain a varied and full schedule while remaining flexible and responsive to student needs
- Experience with problem-based or inquiry learning, Understanding by Design, and/or Advanced Placement courses
- A valid teaching credential (or willingness to make this a priority) and university degree in a related field
- Enthusiasm for outdoor education and participation in winter sports
