TheJohn Smith Centre is embedded within the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow and has built astrong reputation for student opportunities and outstanding events. We seek to extend our activities at theUniversity and beyond, encouraging young people to participate in politics.

The Centre is at an exciting stage in our development. As our second Director since inception, the postholder willlead the next phase of our development, building on the strong foundation fostered by the current Director andthe University.

In this role, the Director will provide strategic leadership to all the activities of the John Smith Centre. Theywill shape the strategic direction of the Centre, direct the thought leadership of the organisation; craft anddirect activities; and lead the engagement with both the University community and the wider UK.

We are launching the UK’s first Youth Poll this year, a multi-year tracker poll assessing the attitudes of youngpeople towards politics. Key to the poll’s success and unique appeal is that students are involved in every partof it. The new Director will have the opportunity to curate actions and events from the data it generates.

We will also present a series of high-profile campus-based events to celebrate our 10th birthday in 2024: our ‘JohnSmith Centre at 10’ series. We have commitments to participate from outstanding UK and internationalcontributors and the new Director will continue to shape this series as the year goes on.

We have ambitious plans to grow our internship and development programmes. We run the only paid internship at theScottish Parliament, and are now able to offer Westminster internships. We will offer our first internships withthe mayor offices in England in 2024 and hope to develop opportunities in local government.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and offered on an open ended basis. Relocation assistance will be providedwhere appropriate.

Interviews will take place on 25 March 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet with members of the JohnSmith Centre Board (online) before formal (in-person) interviews.

The Alumni & Development department would like to invite an experienced, senior fundraiser to join its successfuland ambitious fundraising team as Individual Giving Manager. This is an exciting time to be joining theUniversity as it celebrates its 60th anniversary year in 2024. This is an established role within the team andits primary role is to support student scholarships and student led activities. It is responsible for thestrategic development of Strathclyde’s regular giving programme (including a telethon; Giving Day and directmail campaigns) and a popular scholarships programme. The role contributes to the advancement of theUniversity’s legacy and donor stewardship programmes. You will have line management responsibility (up to 4staff) to support you in the development of these programmes. Ideally you will be a detail orientated projectmanager and someone who enjoys meeting new people, enabling you to conduct face to face meetings with potentialmajor donors (often gifts of £5,000 - £25,000+).

TheVolunteer Tutors Organisation (established 1977) provides educational support to children and young people whoneed it most, regardless of their background or ability to pay. Our tutoring support is tailored to each pupil’sindividual learning needs. We work collaboratively with schools and other partners to maximise the opportunityfor success. Our overarching aim is to help reduce the poverty-related attainment gap in Scotland. Although mostof our tutoring is in Glasgow, we also have thriving projects in Edinburgh and Perth & Kinross.

An opportunity has arisen for the position of Managing Director to provide operational and strategic leadership tothe VTO team, building on the significant successes during the past 5 years and identifying opportunities forsustainability and growth. We are looking for an individual preferably with both private and 3rd sectorexperience who has a track record of success in building partnerships and fundraising.

The opportunity

The role of Social Impact Manager is a new role in the Social Impact Unit within the Department for SocialResponsibility and Sustainability. Social impact is a developing area of work for the Department that iscurrently supported by a small, close team. The team’s objective is to ensure that the University’s communityand social impacts maximise opportunities for staff, students, and disadvantaged groups across the City Region.Working closely with the Head of Social Impact, Senior Community Engagement Manager, Community EngagementProjects Coordinator and other Social Impact Unit and Community Team members, the successful candidate will haveday-to-day oversight of established projects such as the University’s community grants scheme, as well asundertaking developmental work in emerging areas of interest.
