Salary G8 £34,834 - £39,186 per annum, pro rata.
1 x 30-hour post. The nature of this post is such that there may be a requirement to visit other locations in the course of their duties and therefore a car mileage allowance will be applicable.
Walsall Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Collections Librarian to develop the local studies collections, promote their use and support the Archivist in the day-to-day management of the archives service. The archives service is based in the refurbished Lichfield Street Hub in Walsall town centre in a building shared with Walsall Library. This is an ideal opportunity to work with the Archivist, the Leisure, Operations and Projects Manager and the archives team to develop the service further.
The post holder will be part of a small team and will deputise for the Archivist where required. Duties include:
- Managing the effective and efficient provision of Local Studies and other Special Collections material in the care of Walsall Archives Service, including acquisition, classification, conservation, and retention.
- Working with the Archivist in delivering a joined-up service towards increased sustainability with clear strategies in place to ensure the objectives of the service are achieved in line with agreed targets and the Service Business Plan.
- Planning to ensure the effective delivery of front-line services.
- Leading on the services outreach and engagement programme.
You will also support the Archivist in working towards Archives Accreditation. Other important aspects of the role include assisting the archivist in looking for external funding opportunities and promoting the service and special collections to the public via social media, events, and other activities.
