An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an ambitious and newly formed NHS Group, the 12th largest acute and community provider in the NHS.

Our maternity and obstetric services provide care for women, birthing people and their babies and families in Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire and are based on three acute hospital sites: Hull Royal Infirmary, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby, and Scunthorpe General Hospital. Along with extensive community maternity services, we have an alongside midwife-led birth centre at Hull Royal Infirmary and a Home for Home Midwifery-Led Unit at Goole Hospital.

The services provide a comprehensive range of maternal, fetal and mental health services for the populations we serve. We are linked to the Humber and North Yorkshire Local Maternity and Neonatal System and work closely with our partners locally and regionally and are proud to have a strong connection to the Local Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership.

Maternity and Obstetric care is part of the Family Services Healthcare Group. The Group Director of Midwifery is the professional and strategic lead for Maternity services and provides professional advice and support to the Group Chief Nurse, corporate nursing team and the Group Board on relevant matters.

The role offers Board level exposure and development for aspiring executive applicants, you will bring the voice of midwifery, birthing people and families to the Board.

The Group Director of Midwifery is accountable jointly with the Chief of Service, Operations Director and Nurse Director for ensuring that the safety and care of patients and service users is their primary concern. They are also responsible for the group’s overall efficient leadership, management, performance, and the delivery of high-quality patient care.

If successful you will be central to leading and shaping maternity and neonatal service strategy at a time when maternity services, and the improvements we need to make, are in the forefront of national and local focus.

This is a senior leadership position, and you'll need to work within the Healthcare Group quadrumvirate leadership team driving positive change as well as being a strong, clear, and positive advocate for the services we provide. You will contribute actively to strategic discussions, Board assurance processes via its committees, corporate reports, Group performance and Board intelligence, and will develop excellent working relationships with all Board members.

The role will be accountable for overseeing the implementation of systems for assuring and monitoring the quality and safety of patient care and experience, including patient throughput.

You'll need to understand and be able to evidence the power of multidisciplinary and service user collaborative working and ensure that the safety of the patients is at the heart of your decision making.
