Job description
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and inspirational Humanities specialist to lead, manage and provide strategic direction for our Humanities Faculty from September 2024.
You will have strong leadership skills and a clear focus on raising attainment across the department along with the ability to lead a subject area as part of your Head of Department responsibilities.
You will be joining a very strong team of teachers who enjoy working together to develop a love of learning in our students. All Humanities subjects are very popular with students at both GCSE and A-level. The Humanities faculty consists of a group of dedicated teachers who pride ourselves on the support we offer our students as much as we value collaboration with our colleagues. Whilst academic achievement is of utmost importance to the Humanities faculty, we are committed to the overall development of our students as well-rounded, empathetic individuals. Within the Humanities curriculum, we emphasise celebration of and respect for cultural diversity within our community and beyond.
The successful candidate will have:
• An excellent track record of raising attainment and examination results at Key Stage 4 and key Stage 5
• A track record of outstanding teaching across Key Stage 3 to 5
• Proven ability and enthusiasm to motivate students and staff
• The ability to raise expectations and aspirations of students of all abilities
• An understanding of effective strategies for urban schools
• A desire to share experiences and good practice with colleagues.
Prendergast School is an Outstanding 11-16 Girls School with a mixed 6th Form of over 300 students and benefits from being part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools. Awarded its third Outstanding OFSTED grading in a row in November 2013, the school has been leading girls’ education in Lewisham for over 130 years. The school has been recognised by the SSAT for being in the top ten percent nationally of non-selective schools for attainment.
