Job description
We are working very closely with a specialist school in the Bury St Edmunds area to find an experienced SEN Cover Supervisor, or Higher Level Teaching Assistant.
The classes in this school range from 8-10 pupils, and include pupils with social, behavioural and emotional needs. Experience with young vulnerable people who can display challenging behaviour is preferred. This role is to work with pupils with mild autism, ADHD and SEMH.
The school have an inclusive and supportive structure for their staff and pupils, each child has an EHCP plan and it is your responsibility to help to create a safe, engaging and productive learning environment for all students.
The Ideal Applicant
- Will have a TA qualification or Degree Educated, or equivalent
- Experience of working with children with special educational needs
- Experience with positive behaviour management
- Display compassion and understanding for pupils
- Resilient and willing to adapt
- Ability to remain calm and collected in your approach
- Experience with techniques such as Makaton, PECS, Crisis Intervention etc
The Role
- To work as an integral part of the staff team
- Understand additional needs of pupils and provide solutions for learning
- Assist the teaching with behaviour management
- Work 1.1 with pupils or lead small groups
- Keep to high standards of education
