Job description


We are excited to offer a 9 month fixed-term vacancy at the ORCHARD mental health unit in Lancaster for an Assistant Psychologist. The post holder will be an integral and valued team member with the support of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and other multidisciplinary colleagues, including Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychiatrists and support workers. You will receive weekly clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

The post holder will gain experience in developing psychological formulations, co-running training, delivering 1:1 and group interventions, and engaging in indirect work within the MDT, with family members, carers and external agencies.

An interest in working with individuals with a range of presentations across the lifespan will be essential, and this post aims to foster skills in working within a multidisciplinary framework. The post will also sit as part of a team of psychological practitioners working within The Bay area (Lancaster and Morecambe and South Cumbria), and the successful applicant will be welcomed as part of a service which will encourage the development of specific interests and will value further career development.

Lancaster & Morecambe are varied and interesting places to work – offering city, coast and countryside, and the teams have close links to both centres, as well as Lancaster University and the clinical psychology course there.

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
