This role will work on silicon detector development and construction for projects including the ATLAS Inner Tracker. The Inner Tracker (ITk) is a large silicon detector under design, to be constructed as a replacement of the Inner Detector system for the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) due to commence operation in the middle of the decade. The main goal of this post is to contribute to the construction of the ITk so that the upgraded ATLAS experiment at the HL-LHC can continue to search for signs of new physics and perform precision measurements of particles, including the Higgs boson. The post holder will also work on our other silicon detector R&D projects including detectors for future colliders at e+e- machines such as Belle 2 and FCC-ee. The post will be located at QMUL’s Mile End Campus in London but will require travel to CERN in Switzerland and universities and laboratories in Europe
