Job description
Our client, a leading specialty chemicals business, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Testing Chemist to join their team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing paint testing services to the analytical and research and development teams within the company. The role will also involve supporting analytical activities to maximise efficiency.
The Role
- This is a flexible role predominately providing paint testing services to both R&D and the customer support teams within the Company. The role will also involve supporting analytical activities when required to maximise the department's efficiency when directed by the Analytical & Paint Testing Laboratory Team Leader.
- To ensure that all equipment and materials are used in the safest possible way at all times.
- Maintain the laboratory in a tidy and well-organised manner, to meet the requirements of 5S, and ensure efficient day-to-day operation.
- To set up and maintain FCS operating procedures for testing equipment.
- Maintain database for recording of test laboratory work.
- To prioritise own workload while liaising with the Analytical & Paint Test Lab Team Leader for guidance on priorities and deadlines.
- The Paint Test & Analytical Chemist reports directly to the Analytical & Paint Test Lab Team Leader. To ensure expectations are met, the job holder should be meticulous and accurate in data entry. The Team Leader will review external reports before being released to third parties.
- Maintain records of LSR’s received and completed, showing status if work is ongoing.
- Liaise with providers of external testing services where appropriate.
- To ensure that the laboratory is equipped with calibrated and well-maintained equipment whilst liaising with the Analytical & Paint Test Lab Team Leader where appropriate.
- Manage stock levels of paint materials within the laboratory and ensure all testing materials are in date by keeping records of stock levels and use by dates.
- Learn to operate successfully analytical equipment in order to be able to offer support to analytical activities to maximise the efficiency of the department.
Experience Required
- Good level of IT literacy with the ability to use MS Word and Excel
- Excellent written, verbal, and numerical skills
- Problem solving skills. Be highly motivated, responsible, and excellent initiative.
- Previous experience within a test laboratory setting (preferable)
- Experience with mechanical / end product testing
- A knowledge of paint chemistry or related subject (preferable)
- A full UK driving licence
