The Role
As a result of our continuous business expansion, we are excited to offer an exceptional opportunity for the role of a Software Engineer. The ideal candidate must possess an engineering-focused, problem-solving, solution-designing mindset. You must be willing to constantly learn and improve and have a desire to propagate knowledge throughout the team. A positive attitude and the ability to manage disagreements by engaging in open communication and constructive discussions are essential qualities for success in this role.
Your primary focus will be on assisting the team in designing, creating, and developing our in-house software systems. With a creative mindset and excellent software development skills, you will relish the challenge of solving problems and providing up-to-date, scalable, maintainable, and robust solutions. You'll engage in the usual Agile software development practices e.g. daily scrum, user story estimation, pair programming, code reviews, as well as sprint demo and retrospectives.

The two main businesses that comprise MSS are SDL Surveying – which offers national coverage for a range of surveying and panel management services – and Stonebridge Mortgage Solutions – one of the largest independent mortgage and protection networks in the UK. The MSS software engineering department is a remote, dynamic team producing innovative and exciting inhouse cloud-based solutions throughout the entire company and finance industry.
The Software Engineering Team

Requirements
- Strong C# skills (.NET Framework + Core)
- Strong JavaScript skills
- Good unit and integration testing skills (XUnit/NUnit/MS Test)
- Good SQL fundamentals
- Ability to work on Web Applications (front and back end) as well as APIs
- Familiar with common software architecture e.g. Ntier, MVC
- Comfortable using Entity Framework utilising both styles of querying
- Familiar with commonly used design patterns e.g. UnitOfWork, Repository, Dependency Injection and when/how to use them
- Ability to code cleanly using software principles where applicable e.g. SOLID, DRY, YAGNI, KISS
- Familiar with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile principles, and Scrum practices
- Azure DevOps for working with epics, features, user stories and tasks
- Git version control
- Azure DevOps Wiki for documentation
- Legal right to work in the United Kingdom
- Ability to satisfy all of our preemployment screening requirements which includes Identity, DBS, AML, Credit Screen, Financial Sanctions checks and 5 years of employment / activity referencing
